Audrey Grace

So. This is what I’ve been doing for the past month – aside from roaming around Dorset. I was asked by the lovely owner of the soon-to-be opened Audrey Grace Boutique to create some artworks to sell as prints. Now, suffice to say I was rather excited about this as it’s my first real commission – if you don’t count painting my Aunt’s cat!

I’ll post some of my work and a few process photos soon, but for now here’s an interview with the owner of the boutique, Jaclyn. She loves Lula, need I say more…

◊◊◊

1. Tell me about yourself.

I am from Jackson, Mississippi- a small city in the deep south. I currently live in New York City where I am in final year of university studying acting. I plan to pursue an acting career. I also love fashion very much, and hope it will always be a part of what I do.

2. What inspired you to set up the Audrey Grace Boutique?

I wanted to bring all the beautiful things I had found all over the world back home. I had actually wanted to open a boutique for a while.. I dreamed about it. I cannot believee it’s happening!

3. Considering the name of your boutique, what are you favourite Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly films?

It’s really hard to chose, but..
Audrey: Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Charade, My Fair Lady
Grace: To Catch A Thief
4. I hear you are also a fan of the fabulous Lula magazine. If you could create a magazine of your own what would it be like?

Yes, I adore Lula! I’d love to work for them. If I could start a magazine I think it would be really original and full of wonderful people and things. It would be very girly, also! I actually thought about doing just that with all the lovely contacts I have made through the boutique.

5. What are some of your favourite books, magazines and blogs?

This is a loooonggg list
books: Classics like The Great Gatsby, Tender is the Night, A Farewell to Arms, The Virgin Suicides, The Reader, Notes on A Scandal, The Awakening, Luella’s Guide to English Style, All of Tennessee Williams plays, Phillipa Gregory and Allison Weir’s novels, lots of biographies (a really varied list!)
magazines: Lula, Vogue (US & UK), Harper’s Bazaar (UK), Teen Vogue, NYLON, Material Girl, LOVE, Interview
Blogs: Fancy Fine, The Cherry Blossom Girl, Wish wish wish, It girl rag doll, Hannah and Landon, Sea of Fertility, various designer’s and shop’s blogs etc.. There are so many amazing blogs this could go on forever!
6. Who are some of your favourite artists and designers?
Artists- I love the art work of the Pre-Raphaelites. Millais is my all time favorite. Also Monet and Degas. Also today I admire the work of Mercedes Helnwein, and all of the artists that I am working with for my shop.
Designers- Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Rochas, Luella (she was my all time favorite), Miu Miu, Prada, Honor, Calla, Chloe, Marchesa, House of Holland, Erdem, Christopher Kane, Giles, Meadham Kirchoff, Alberta Ferretti, Band of Outsiders, Anna Sui, Carven, Givenchy, Imitation, Mulberry, etc. I love London fashion designers and all of the designers I am carrying in my shop.
7.What music have you been listening to recently?

This is really bad.. but I don’t really listen to popular music. I listen to Broadway soundtracks or movie soundtracks! I love She & Him, though!  ( Don’t worry Jaclyn, I listen to soundtracks aswell – Chicago, Funny Girl, Hello Dolly… I could go on!)

8.What does the future hold for you and the Audrey Grace Boutique?

I hope to continue pursuing acting. I think Audrey Grace will always be a part of me and I’d love to open it as a permanent shop one day.

The Boutique will sell items from all sorts of wonderful designers and artists; from Erin Fetherston, to Up The Wooden Hills, Genevieve Godbout, Family Affairs, Wayward Daughter, TBA and Alice Takes A Trip (And more!). Below you can see some examples of all these wonderful things…

Lula: Issue 12: Summer Comes And Gravity Undoes You

I recieved my copy of Lula yesterday! However, I was at first a little disappointed, it seemed to be covering old ground and nothing was catching my eye on the aesthetics front – which is the main reason I buy Lula, it’s beautiful! But, my spirit rose again when I saw this editorial, I love it. It’s warm and tropical and anything that involves plentiful amounts of nature is perfect in my book. So here it is – Summer Comes And Gravity Undoes You. It’s photographed by Sofia Sanchez & Mauro Mongiello and styled by Samuel Francois, the model is Ilvie Wittek. More of this please Lula!

Lula – Issue 11 – Overview

IT’S ARRIVED!!! I know I shouldn’t be as excited as I am about a magazine, but it’s Lula, so I’m just going to go with it. I have to say, this issue is probably one of my favourites. It’s definitly not as ‘fluffy’ as previous issues, but there’s a shadowy edge that makes up for it. It reminds me of the ‘old school’ issues of POP, when Katie Grand was in charge. I know that all the editorials will end up on TFS in full, so I thought I’d give you a few images that I liked from the issue as a whole. Apologies for my lacklustre scanning, but I was trying, in vain, not to crease the spine. Anyway, here we go…
… In my opinion, every fashion magazine should have pages like the ones below. I’m remembering the days when I woud buy Stargirl (Anyone else remember it?) just for the cut out doll and clothes, Ahh memories…

Lula – F/W 2010 – Issue 11 – Charlotte Gainsbourg (Part II)

I’m actually in shock. Everyday I would do a search for a picture of the new Lula, and everyday nothing would come up. I’d pretty much given up hope of ever seeing anything, but lo and behold, today on my scour of The Fashion Spot I came across the image below. Echoing Lily-Belle – Champagne for everyone!!!!

Extra Note!!! -If anyone has a Magazine Cafe subscription to Lula and has seen their page and got alarmed about the possibility that they may not get a copy – Fear Not! Those that have an existing subscription of Lula will get a copy. It’s just any new subscriptions that won’t – they’ll have to wait until Issue 12.

Lula and Harvey

Lula Magazine turns 5 this year and to celebrate it they’ve teamed up with Harvey Nichols to create a pop-up shop that opens on July 1st – tomorrow! There will be all sorts of unique, one off pieces designed especially for Lula by the likes of Miu Miu (yes!), Rodarte, Erdem and more. But don’t despair if, like moi, you don’t have the dosh to buy one of the clothing  pieces, aside from window shopping you can also buy music and books from the likes of Karen Elson and Daisy de Villeneuve. Plus, if that wasn’t enough, there’s a rumour that none other than Chanel will be bestowing a gift upon those that make a purchase. And the cherry on the top: If you don’t happen to be able to get to the pop-up shop in Knightsbridge, all the gorgeous Lula-ness will be available online at the Harvey Nichols site. It’s fair to say I can’t wait! Via.
In other Lula news, I spent ages trying to find a way to post this, it’s the video from one of the editorials that was in issue 10. It’s called Empty House, by Sandra Freij.
